24-Hour Readathon Wrap-Up

As you may know, I participated in a 24-hour readathon on December 29th. First and foremost, I have to thank Brianna for hosting this readathon. I had loads of fun and accomplished my reading goal! I love the booktube and blogging community because we are so supportive of each other! I know I definitely found the right place. :)

You can read my previous blog post here or watch my YouTube video here so you can see what I planned to read. I did not read the full 24 hours, but I did read for 17 hours. This took a lot of dedication, but I had lots of motivation from my twitter friends!

I'd like to mention a new friend I made through twitter. I know her as Violet. She was very supportive and I loved discussing books with her. Check out her blog!

Here is what I read and finished in the following order.

Crown of Midnight by Sara J. Maas
Never Fade by Alexandra Bracken
Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black
and part of Angelfall by Susan Ee
Note: The first four books mentioned were not started and finished in the readathon. I had read half of the books and finished them in the readathon.

With this, I finished 4 books and started another. I read 92 pages of Angelfall.
This bring my total pagecount to 864 pages! I feel very accomplished that I completed my goal for the readathon. My wrap up video is down below. Hope you enjoy! Until then, happy reading!

Today is the day!

What day is it? 24-Hour Readathon day!

Well, the readathon is actually on December 29th (tomorrow), but I decided to make the blog post before hand so I can focus on reading. The readathon is being hosted by Brianna's Bookish Confessions. She has a lovely blog, so definitely check it out.

I am currently prepping all of my books for reading. I will keep a notebook on hand so I can write notes for reviews. My planned TBR is right here.

I know this looks like a huge TBR pile, but I am actually in the middle of all of these books. I have been stuck on all of these books for quite awhile, so I am glad they will be finished soon!

Here is the pagecount I hope to accomplish:
Opal: 116-382 (266)
Never Fade: 322-507 (185)
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown: 220-419 (199)
Crown of Midnight: Not sure because I plan to read a little bit of this book after I post this blog post.

If you only count the first three books, I have 650 pages to complete, which I am sure I will be able to finish. If I manage to finish all of the books and I still feel like reading I have the following books to choose from:

Of Poseidon by Anna Banks
The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan
Everyday by David Levithan
Angelfall by Susan Ee

Out of all of these, I am most likely to read Angelfall by Susan Ee and I have this urge to read it, so hopefully I get a chance to at least start it.

During the Readathon:
I will probably carry a book bag around the house as I change locations. In this book bag will be: all my books, pen and paper, some snacks, and my camera. I will try to film my progress hourly and I will compile all of the videos into my wrap-up. I will also update hourly on my twitter

Good luck to all participating! It is now time for my nap.

The Archived by Victoria Schwab

That moment when I hated him for telling me, when I wished I could go back. But there is no going back.
So can't we just go forward?

Wow. This is definitely a mind-blowing novel. The premise drew me in instantly and I was hooked from the first chapter. If you feel like this has a slow start, just wait until you hit the half-way point. From there, it's impossible to put down.

Summary:

Note: This was hard to summarize, so I used the description from Goodreads.
Imagine a place where the dead rest on shelves like books.

Each body has a story to tell, a life seen in pictures that only Librarians can read. The dead are called Histories, and the vast realm in which they rest is the Archive.

Da first brought Mackenzie Bishop here four years ago, when she was twelve years old, frightened but determined to prove herself. Now Da is dead, and Mac has grown into what he once was, a ruthless Keeper, tasked with stopping often—violent Histories from waking up and getting out. Because of her job, she lies to the people she loves, and she knows fear for what it is: a useful tool for staying alive.

Being a Keeper isn’t just dangerous—it’s a constant reminder of those Mac has lost. Da’s death was hard enough, but now her little brother is gone too. Mac starts to wonder about the boundary between living and dying, sleeping and waking. In the Archive, the dead must never be disturbed. And yet, someone is deliberately altering Histories, erasing essential chapters. Unless Mac can piece together what remains, the Archive itself might crumble and fall.

Overall Review:

I gave this book a 5/5 stars because I purely enjoyed it. The characters were so fun and the world was so enchanting. Not many books surprise me, but this one definitely did. I was oblivious to some of the most obvious reveals. I was not expecting this to be a mystery, but I'm glad it was. It explored many themes such as the powers of secrets and lies, the concept of ignorance is bliss, and the past should stay in the past. My heart wrenched and it's a story I will never forget.

World Building:

The concept of the Archive was crafted so well. There are the Histories that are the dead's entire life. There are the Keepers who have to hunt the ones that wake up and escape into the Narrows, a place in between our world and the Archive. The next level in the process is becoming a Crew. They are the ones that hunt the adult Histories.  Then there are the Librarians that can read the Histories' lives. The idea of the Keeper paper was an interesting concept.

Characters:

Mackenzie Bishop is the main character and she was an okay character. I didn't find her interesting. She would be very sarcastic in her dialogue, but her point of view was a tad bit bland. I absolutely loved Wesley! He was the guy wearing "guyliner". Roland was also a great fatherly character.

I hope you found this review helpful. Please note that I purchased this book with my own money and that I am not being paid to make this review.

ARC of Cress!

I apologize for being so inactive lately. Hopefully, I will have some reviews up in the next week or so. Here is a quick update on my life.

I have just received this in the mail!

Isn't it beautiful?

Well I'm definitely looking forward to reading this badboy. I won this in a contest a couple weeks ago. Apparently, this arrived three days ago, but my parents hid it from me so I wouldn't have any 'distractions'.  I will probably be glued to this for the next few days. I'll try to finish and review it as soon as possible!

Infinite ARC Giveaway Entry!

Incarnate anniversary

First of I want to say thank you to Jodi Meadows for the chance to enter in this giveaway. You can see her post here.

All of my adventures start off when I am going out of my state. Last spring, I got to travel to Austin, Texas in order to see my uncle's wedding. When I first arrived in the airport, I saw all these gigantic colored guitars. My dad and I decided to go hunting for as many as we could find!

Pretty sweet, right? The next few days were a blur. We had wedding rehearsals, places to explore, and the actual wedding! I had fun meeting new family members and being apart of their wedding. They had their wedding on a historic site, so that was really cool to see. I discovered I had a cousin that looked like Taylor Lautner! Across my hotel there was a motorcycle shop and my dad and I checked it out. They had the bikes that were in the movie, The Host. Being a huge fan of the books, I was so excited when the manager let me sit on one of them!

The next day we got to adventure around Austin (seeing the capital building and their bridges) on SEGWAYS! They are so much fun to ride! That made the sights of Austin even more thrilling! I can't wait to go there next time because I will get to meet my baby cousin. Since my aunt and uncle have moved since we were there, their new neighbor is Elijah Wood. Yes, the Elijah Wood. If you are unfamiliar with this actor, he was Frodo in The Lord of the Rings movies.

Incarnate Giveaway Entry!

Incarnate anniversary

First off, I wanted to say thank you to Jodi Meadows for this opportunity. Her story about new beginnings was lovely as well and you can see it here. Here is my entry for the signed Incarnate paperback!

Incarnate

The story I picked was my first day at a new school. I was only in third grade at the time and I transferred in the middle of November. It was not because I moved or anything like that, but my mom really disliked my old school, so she decided that I needed to change schools. This changed the course of my life completely. I got new friends, a different education, and a different environment.

I remember my first day crystal clear. I arrived at the school and there was a female student who had to guide me through the school. I thought the way they ran things was so strange and unfamiliar. For example, we had to wait in an amphitheater until eight o'clock. When it was eight, they let us out for ten minutes of recess. Their worn, wooden  desks were so different compared to the shiny, metal ones they had at my old school.

The girl who guided me around walked us to our new classroom. I was introduced to the teacher, Ms.Gruber. This whole time I had thought she was an older woman, but she was actually one of the youngest teachers on campus. She was an amazing teacher. She challenged me to my fullest potential and I wouldn't be who I am today without her guidance.

Ms.Gruber had put me next to the brightest girl in our class. She had dark skin and a braided pixie cut. She helped me get into the routine and helped tour me around. To this day, she is still my best friend and I am so thankful that she is in my life. This was only the start of my new life.

The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead

"It's Adrian Ivashkov logic. Don't try to understand it. Just roll with it."

I will warn you that this review will be a tad bit bias because I am absolutely in love with all of Richelle Mead's books. This review may also contain a few spoilers because these feels can not and shall not be held in!

If you have no clue what this book is about, I'll try to get you up to speed. This is the fourth book in the Bloodlines series, and that series is a spinoff to the Vampire Academy series. (Which I totally recommend because it's the best vampire series out there.) If you haven't read any of the previous books that lead up to this one, I recommend you leave now and go read them. You are totally missing out!

Summary:

In this book, Sydney has many complications. With her sister being around, that doesn't leave much time for much Sydrian action, much less time for Alchemist rebels. (But my dear Sydrian fans, you will definitely not be disappointed by this book.) There is a lot to deal with tattoos, tattoos that may save our favorites' lives.

Overall Review:

After immediately finishing this book, I was willing to give this book 5 stars. Now that I have had time to digest what has happened, I shall give it a 4/5 stars.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself while reading this. It was such a thrill. If you don't remember what has happened in past books, don't worry. The first 10 pages or so will help you remember what this world is like.
The major change of this book is that it contains Adrian POVs. I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I loved getting insight to Adrian's mind. He is a character we have know for years and it was interesting to live through his eyes. It was also very essential to this story, especially towards the end of the book. The problem I had was that Mead has a very feminine style of writing and that is why I did not like the Adrian POV. It was too feminine to be a male character. Mead also could have done a lot more with his character because Adrian is definitely one of the most sarcastic characters of all.
I did enjoy the Sydney perspectives as well. She has thrown all of the Alchemists beliefs out the window. I know, finally. It took three books to avoid Adrian's charm, but she has finally fallen over his spell. Mead did a fantastic job of showing the character development that happens with Sydney. It takes awhile to find the strength to go against what she has been taught her whole life.

I hope you found this review helpful. Please note that I purchased this book with my own money and that I am not being paid to make this review.
